11 immigration officers Passed out after successful completion of their Maritime Training
11 Immigration Officers have successfully completed maritime training at the Magamaga Marine Base by the Uganda People Defence Forces Marine Brigade and been passed out by the Joint Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Joseph Musanyufu. This training is part of the Project “Reduce transnational security threats while increasing Border Security and Regular Migration in Uganda” which is funded by Government of Japan and implemented by International Organization for Migration (IOM).
This training is intended to equip the immigration officers with working knowledge on how to detect and deal with migration crimes on the country's water bodies; first addressing irregular migration through enhanced maritime water patrol capacities over Lake Albert
The officers were skilled in water vessel repair and maintenance, tactical swimming, water patrol, rescue and interception, navigating different classes of boats, international navigation law, mapping of global positioning systems (GPS) and boat radar system according to IOM.
