ELECTRONIC VISA SYSTEM OFFICIALLY FLAGGED OFF AT THE UGANDAN EMBASSY IN SOUTH AFRICA

The Electronic Visa System has been operationalised at the High Commission of Uganda in Pretoria, South Africa. The operationalisation was officially flagged off by H. E Barbara Nekesa Oundo, the High Commissioner. Present were Senior Management Officials from the Ministry of Internal Affairs led by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Dr. Benon Mutambi and Mr. Wanzira Ssasaga, the Director Citizenship and Immigration Control. Also present were Mr. Namara Anthony Commissioner Immigration Control, Mr. Nicholas Ongodia Commissioner Passport Control and Ms. Proscovia Babirye Assistant Commissioner-Human Resource.

Electronic visas are applied for online at the web portal www.visas.immigration.go.ug. All a person intending to Travel to Uganda does is go to the web portal and apply for an appropriate Entry Visa or Permit. This now means that Applicants can have their approved visas personalised and visa stickers placed in their passports at the mission.

The Electronic Visas and Permit application system was implemented by the Ministry of Internal Affairs through the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control and eventually rolled out to the various Embassies and High Commissions abroad. This is expected to improve on the effectiveness of the Issuance of Visas and Entry Permits

Speaking at the function, H.E Oundo , pledged the Mission’s commitment to ensure that this system effectively serves and meets the needs of all persons intending to travel to Uganda in a timely and efficient manner so as to make visiting the Pearl of Africa memorable.

The Permanent Secretary Dr. Benon Mutambi was pleased to note that the High Commission has rolled out this electronic visa and permit application system and promised that the Ministry of Internal Affairs will continue to offer technical assistance where necessary.

The Commissioner Immigration Control Mr. Namara Anthony emphasized that this Electronic system effectively replaced the manual system of issuance of Visas and Permits and is more efficient with applications resolved in a much shorter period.
